Remembering What’s Important

Piedmont College, Site of the 2006 Staff Training Conference

Staff Training 2006

We just completed a wonderful staff conference in Demorest, GA at Piedmont College.

Master’s directors from around the country gathered in Demorest beginning Wednesday afternoon for their annual conference and were joined on Thursday evening by the staff from their respective schools.

The theme for this year’s conference centered on the phrase:  Remembering What’s Important.  This theme was not taught during our general sessions in II Peter 1: 1-12 and an emphasis on the two supreme priorities of the Christian life, but it also extended to our workshops on approaching each student through their individual learning style and remembering the importance of the individual, and to remembering the central themes of our approach to fine arts instruction by our workshops on our basic Master’s philosophy of music, art, drama and history.  These workshops were supplemented by time period workshops, how-to and hands on workshops, great interaction and sharing of ideas between the schools and a wonderful presentation of resources offered by Restoration Publishing which is owned by MAFA Inc.

Staff Training 2006

Over 100 staff members from across the country enjoyed pleasant accommodations, good food and great hospitality from Piedmont College.  Although the conference continued until 5 p.m. on Saturday, the highpoint of the weekened occurred on Friday night with an Artios Student Led Worship time for all attendees followed by a general session focused on mentoring character in our lives and lives of our students through more teaching on II Peter 1 and on the story of Nehemiah.  The evening concluded honoring Vivian Doublestein, retiring Executive Director, with a special presentation by all of those attending.

It was evident by the spirit of those who attended, the comments on the conference feedback survey and many other comments, that God is working in and through the transition that is occurring at Master’s Inc.  God is clearly leading and directing in the affairs of all involved and we are looking forward to the best year we have experienced as we see God’s continued guidance and the answer to many long-term prayers.

Faith and Courage,

The Master's Academy of Fine arts is a homeschool fine arts school where students taught from a historical perspective. The Master's Academy focuses on teaching music, art, drama, and history through six distinct historical periods. These include: ancient, medeival-renaissance, baroque, classical, and romantic. The children are exposed to choir, plays, drawing, painting, music theory, dance, and art history. We are committed to providing a homeschool art program that encourages children to Glorify God through excellence in the arts. Many of our homeschool art students have received large scholarships to universities based soley on their portfolio work completed at Master's Academy of Fine Arts. We understand the importance that the arts play in our culutre, and desire for every homeschool art student to learn about the arts through a God centered historical perspective. Our well rounded homeschool art program centers on Christ, by teaching our students not just the techniques, but also a historical worldview that shows them the importance of using their art to glorify God.
